The Power Went Out!

It’s the perfect time to talk about what to do when the power goes out. With the upcoming storm that is ahead you do not want to be stuck. The fortunate ones will have a backup generator and will not have to think twice about losing power. However, many others are not in that boat. It is very stressful to think about perishable foods, cooking, seeing at night, and most importantly, the air conditioning! We do not want you to be stranded and in the dark!

The great news is Anchor Electric of Florida Inc has a very cost-effective solution for you. Our company can install a power inlet and a way to isolate the panel from the power grid. Then, all that is needed to do is hookup a portable generator. Rest easy that the power will be back on!

There are a few more easy steps to ensuring the portable generator is operating safely once installed:

  1. First, turn your main breaker to the off position. This will ensure that when your power does come back on while using your portable generator, your home is not damaged.
  2. Next, bring your portable generator to an area that is flat, secure and open. We recommend placing the generator behind a fence or in a secure location where someone cannot easily access or possibly steal the generator.
  3. Then, check the generator fuel level and add sufficient fuel for desired run times.
  4. Remember, plug your 25’ cord into the power inlet installed by Anchor Electric of Florida Inc. and then into the generator.
  5. Start your generator.
  6. Turn on the generator breaker
  7. Last, turn on the desired breakers

Our technicians at Anchor Electric will explain all of this to you and make sure to answer any of your questions after installation. If you currently have this system in your home but are unsure of how to use it, we can help with that as well by viewing and inspecting your system. We can explain how to utilize it effectively.

The typical installation fee for this generator option would run around $800-$1,200. The pricing depends on where your panel is located in relation to where we install the power inlet. Having a whole home generator installed and serviced over a 10 year span would cost you in the neighborhood of $30,000. The portable generator is the much more affordable and practical option and we would love to schedule a free estimate to get the ball rolling for your system today! Don’t be under prepared for the next storm, let Anchor Electric of Florida Inc. assist you today!
